The Art of Survival

For most of us, creativity is something we employ in our down-time. We assemble our purchased materials, muse about what ways we might use them, and carry on until we are distracted or are forced to take up another task.

Not so for Larry Roberts.

For Roberts, a contestant on seasons 2 and 5 of the hit survival competition show “Alone”, creativity means survival. Equipped with only the most basic of tools and left in unforgiving wilderness, he survived for a cumulative 105 days by relying on his ingenuity, grit, and adaptation. Whether hunting, fishing, or building a shelter, Roberts was alone with his creativity — and it awarded him an incredible second- and third-place finish on his wild excursions to Vancouver Island and Mongolia, respectively.

At Pine Center for the Arts, we celebrate creativity in all of its forms — especially when it collides with local passions for self-reliance and skill-building. We are honored to be hosting an evening with Larry Roberts on February 10 at 2 o’clock, in which we can be inspired and mesmerized by how this local man used his creative skills in the challenge of a lifetime — and then did it again!
