The application process includes a series of questions for the organization to explain their project, how it fits into the guidelines and goals for the GPAE and how completion of this project will impact the Pine City community.

First established in 1992, the Endowment spent the first 5 years raising funds within the Pine City community to establish the endowment funds that are now responsible for granting funds to local organizations as an investment to improve facilities and organizational capacity. Since its first grant awarded in 1997, the advisory board has approved 150 grant applications to a total of 39 local organizations with a cumulative value of $616,546.11.

Recent awards include:

  • $7,500 grant awarded to Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build and distribute beds for children in need in the Pine City area.
  • $10,000 grant awarded to the Pine County Master Gardeners for the re-development of the Pine City Discovery Garden located on Main Street in Pine City.
  • $25,000 grant awarded to the City of Pine City for the facility upgrades at Hilltop Park to create a new winter recreation opportunity for the community with a warming house facility.
  • $15,000 grant awarded to the Pine Center for the Arts for an energy efficiency project to replace the windows and front entry door.

“The key to a successful grant application is a well thought out project that can clearly demonstrate the impact for the organizations, its local residents or the local economy,” says Olson.  The GPAE website provides our potential grant applicants a copy of the Grantmaking Policy and Procedure document that outlines general guidelines, including what types of projects are not eligible for funding.  All applicants are encouraged to review those guidelines before beginning an application.
