247 5th St SE, Pine City
Pine Center for the Arts is honored to present November’s Gallery featuring Native American artists in honor and celebration of Native American Heritage Month. The gallery opens Friday, November 6th, where the public is invited to a free artist’s reception from 4-7pm. Light appetizers and refreshments will be served.
The gallery will feature handcrafted beadwork, traditional regalia worn at special events and powwows, photography, and more from regional Native American artists. Pine Center for the Arts will also host classes and workshops from Native American instructors throughout the month of November.
The public is encouraged to check the website at pinecenter.org/classeevents for updates on what is coming up. For example, November 21st Pine Center for the Arts is excited to be hosting a workshop called The Gift of the Nettles, presented by Derek Nicholas, Red Cliff Band of Ojibwe. In this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for nettles, gaining key insights on how this plant is used for food, medicine, and utility. Attendees will gain hand-ons practice making fiber from nettle and learn the skills to make such fiber into twine. With the twine, participants will then fashion bracelets as a memento of the knowledge and skills learned at this class.
The gallery will continue throughout the month of November. Regular gallery hours are 10am-5pm Thursday-Saturday, and 11am-5pm Sunday. The gallery is free and open to the public thanks to an anonymous donor.
