Eight years ago a group of of dedicated volunteers conceived the idea for the first summer session of arts programming for elementary age students. Class sizes were small to start with, but the enthusiasm for engaging young students in exploring their creativity was huge!
Fast forward to the summer of 2019 and you’ll find that many things have changed about the program, but the enthusiasm from instructors remains the same. Class sizes are still limited to just 20 students, but classes are filled and in some age groups – a waiting list exists. The program has expanded to include a weekly class opportunity for all students from Kindergarten through 12th grade.
“When the program started, our youngest group (the K-1 classes) were the fullest and we struggled to fill the oldest age group (4th – 6th grade). But students enjoyed the creative outlet and continue to come back year after year to explore new opportunities,” says Becky Schueller, Summer Arts Registration Coordinator.
In 2019, the Art Center will have some great instructors returning along with some new and exciting additions. The high school sessions will be led by either Rachel Bigelow or Laura Strand. The elementary classes will be led by Jen Hansmann in collaboration with Felicia Madsen and JoAnn Blake. The summer opens with our first week being hosted by new summer arts instructor and local artist, Kristin Webster.
Registration is now open for the Summer Arts 2019 opportunities! Visit the Pine Center for the Arts website for more information at:
