Here’s your opportunity to learn the basics and benefits of gardening and to sign-up for a garden plot at the new and improved Pine City Community Garden. You can do all of this at the first of six classes in a Summer Gardening Series called “A Walk Through the Gardening Season.”
It will be presented by the University of Minnesota Extension Pine County Master Gardeners and the Extension SNAP Educator on Thursday, April 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pine County Courthouse Board Room in Pine City. At 6 p.m. a presentation called “Get Growing – A Beginner’s Guide to Growing Vegetables” will be presented by Pine County Master Gardeners Kim Metz and Barb Videen. That will be followed by a presentation on the “Physical and Mental Benefits of Gardening” by UMN Extension Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Educator Jimmie Johnson.
At 7 p.m. will be the Kick-Off organization for anyone who wants to sign-up for a plot at the new and improved Pine City Community Garden. The garden located at the Challeen Park at 10 S.E. 3rd St. in Pine City will have 32 (20 ft x 10 ft) plots at $15/plot for the season. Water, hoses and a storage shed are on site. Raised beds can also be rented. A reference library and
mentors are available. Having a plot is an opportunity to grow your own food close to home, meet and learn from Master Gardeners and other gardeners.
