The Pine City High School Theater Program is participating in the 2021 MSHSL One-Act Competition this weekend through a virtual contest. High school students in grades 9-12 are eligible to audition annually to be part of the team.
“League rules for one-act limit participation to just 20 students with both actors and crew members counting toward the total student count,” says Becky Schueller, PCHS Theater Director. “This year was a very different experience for us as we started our season through a computer screen.”
In a normal year, Schueller selects a show and students audition to be a part of the production. “Having missed both a spring show in 2020 and the fall musical, students were eager to return to theater – in whatever way it could happen,” continued Schueller. “This year I put out a call for interested students and we picked a show based on the interest. If they showed up, we tried to get them in the show.”
After 4 weeks of virtual rehearsals, the cast was able to begin rehearsal in-person on January 19th. With just 6 rehearsals days on stage, adhering to all COVID-19 safety precautions, the cast filmed their show for submission to the 5A Sub-Section competition on Saturday, January 30th.
The public is invited to enjoy viewing of the show from 5PM on Saturday through 5PM on Sunday through the On-Demand link available HERE.
