Individuals interested in the study and preservation of local history are encouraged to attend the next meeting of the Pine City Area History Association. The meeting will be held Sunday, October 1st at 3:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the Pine City Public Library. This local volunteer group hosts special events each quarter with a speaker to share on a historical topic for each session.
This month Olaf Danielson, who grew up in the Grantsburg area, will share excerpts from his newest book, “Expensive Crossings: The Border Crossings of Western Wisconsin. Greed Fraud, and the People that Paid the Price.” Two of the chapters are of particular interest, the Soderbeck Ferry and the Grantsburg Bridge. In addition to being an author Olaf is a medical doctor, a photographer, a birder, a religious scholar, and a newspaper columnist. He collects rare butterflies, lives in a house full of cats, and spends his winters in an RV named “Big Bird”. It should be an interesting presentation.
All are welcome to attend this free event.
