Central MN Jobs & Training Services and the North 65 Chamber of Commerce will host an important presentation regarding new state and federal rules that impact all employers.
Employers are invited to attend this special event on Thursday, December 19 from 8:00 am – 9:30 am at the CareerForce Center in Cambridge, MN.
Dave Skovholt with the MN Department of Labor and Industry and Corey Walton from the US Dept of Labor will share key information on the rule changes highlighted below as well as tools and resources needed to help ensure employer compliance.
Federal: On September 25, 2019, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) published a final rule to make 1.3 million American workers newly eligible for overtime pay. Among other changes, the final rule updates the earnings thresholds necessary to exempt executive, administrative and professional employees from the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) minimum wage and overtime pay requirements. But there is more to the rule and this session will flush out the details!
State: The Wage Theft Prevention Act, passed during 2019 Minnesota legislative session, created additional protections for workers, including adding criminal penalties for employers who commit wage theft. From employee notification to paystub updates, there are components to this law that impact every Minnesota employer. This session will help employers take measures now to avoid potential compliance traps down the road.
